I am very excited to be involved as the Music Director for the summer camp. Making theatre affordable and accessible is very important for the community and I am glad to be making that happen here in Blair County! Here is a little more from the rest of the team making this possible: “We are excited and are expecting an incredible turnout, so interested students are encouraged to register as soon as possible,” said Brian Sandell, pastor of 2nd Ave United Methodist Church, 2nd Avenue and 2nd Street. “The theatre camp, for teens and kids 8-17, is a wonderful opportunity to try something different for the summer or further develop your theatre skills. We are offering it for a low cost thanks to some generous donations. No acting experience is necessary. Just come and have fun,” states Donna Chalmers, a director and actor from Atlanta, GA. Chalmers is originally from Altoona. Donna actually made her theatre debut in Altoona Community Theatre as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz and has been non-stop ever since.

The show the campers will rehearse and perform will be Through the Looking Glass: An Alice in Wonderland Tale. Rise Up Theatre Summer Camp will be held at Second Ave. United Methodist located at 130 Second Ave. while the show will be held at Church in the Middle of the Block located at 217 5th Ave. Each theatre registration comes with one free ticket to the show Friday night. Tickets are $1 or you can come for free if you donate a non-perishable, non-expired food item.
