Focus One – the Building
The former S.H.Kress building at 1406 Eleventh Avenue in downtown Altoona is now the major focus for our ArtsAltoona organization. We are meeting and getting tentative proposals from an architect, roofers, clean out/demolition crews, restaurateurs, and others to begin to put together our plans for development of the building into our Studio Arts Center! A few of our members have made visits to similar facilities, like the Millworks in Harrisburg to see how it all comes together there. We are very excited about the possibilities for what we can bring to the area! We are beginning to draft a brochure targeted to artists to begin getting statements of “intent to lease” for those who have an interest in being with us when we open. This will be helpful for obtaining bank funding and potential grant match, etc. Our team is exploring grants to assist with the development also. If you have an interest in joining our “All Team” just reach out and we will be in touch to see how we can best utilize your time and talents in advancing our shared mission and vision!
Focus Two – the Fundraising
Speaking of volunteers and their time and talents, ArtsAltoona is very excited to have a new group of enthusiastic supporters, led by Dana Sky, who are putting together our first significant fundraising event. ART JIVE ONE – Be a pART from the stART will take place on Sunday, August 19th from 5 to 9pm on Eleventh Avenue in front of the Kress building on in Heritage Plaza. The Avenue will be closed for the event. Various food and beverage vendors are being recruited to contribute to the event.
Music will be provided by award winning Tommy “The Piano Man” Wareham of State College. Those in attendance will have an opportunity to create a mural which will be displayed in the Studio Arts Center once it opens. Only 250 tickets are available and will be $99 each which will include food, beverages and the entertainment. A special website is being developed at artjiveone.org for all of the details and ticket purchase using PayPal or by RSVP by August 8th at 914 283 5457. Please join us for this exciting event! Lots of fun is being planned!
Focus Three – Promotion
We are continuing to tweak our website to make it more user friendly for those who want to place their events on our calendar and their profiles on the site. We want everyone to check our calendar when they are looking for things to do, but the calendar is only as good as the event producers putting their events on it!
We have rebranded our YouTube channel as ArtsAltoonaTALKS – please subscribe (if you haven’t already) and look for the next interview coming out soon! As always we are very appreciative for Tiffany Stuckey who interviews everyone for us and for Rogan Allen who is our primary volunteer videographer (and thanks to Chuck Meyers at Two Twenty Studios for making Rogan available for us)! We are also continuing to share community events on our Facebook page. Please let us know if you want to help us in any way! You are welcome to call or text me at 814 932 2629 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
