Hi Friends of ArtsAltoona! Since our fundraising campaign for the Studio Arts Center is priority one at the moment for our Leadership Team, I am sharing the recent news release about the ART JIVE ONE event. Be sure to get your tickets now since they are a limited quantity and this is going to be a very fun evening!

In keeping with its mission to transform the former Kress Building in downtown Altoona into a Studio Arts Center, ArtsAltoona has announced the kick off of its first major fundraising event headed by a team of local key supporters of the arts and the revitalization of downtown Altoona.

Committee Chair Dana Sky, along with a 20-member planning group including the ArtsAltoona Leadership Team, will host the first in a series of fundraising events on Sunday, August 19th, from 5-9 p.m. on Eleventh Avenue in front of the Studio Arts Center and the adjoining Heritage Plaza.

Titled ART JIVE ONE, Be a pART from the stART, the event is designed as a street party with live music by Tommy Wareham, dancing, and food provided by downtown business owners.

Event goers will also experience the arts during the event, most notably with a large mural that folks can pay-to-paint that ultimately will hang in the Studio Arts Center once it opens as a vibrant visual show of support for the building and the arts community in our region.

“I am so excited for this event and for the wonderful team of people who have joined us to create this major inaugural fundraiser for the Studio Arts Center,” said Ms. Sky. “The ART JIVE ONE event is significant for two reasons – it is the kickoff to a fundraising campaign to raise the $3.5 million needed for the renovations of the building while creating awareness of Arts Altoona organization in the community.”

“Our hope is that this is the first of a series of fun, exciting fundraising efforts that will help bring life to the former Kress Building in the near future,” said Ms. Sky. “Thus the name ART JIVE ONE.”

ArtsAltoona, a non-profit organization whose vision is to strengthen Altoona and Blair County as a center for educational, cultural and social activity and to enhance its reputation as an exciting place to live and visit, has identified the former Kress Building as a key initiative, transforming it into a new Studio Arts Center that will bring new life to an old building for students, community members, and artists.

A design reveal event was held in late April when nine fourth-year architectural student teams presented their concepts for the building. Located at 1406 Eleventh Avenue in Altoona, the building has been a host to multiple businesses and residences over the years since the Kress & Co. 5-10-25 cent store closed.

“Our vision is to bring the former Kress Five and Dime back to its original glory,” said George Sackandy, lead innovator for ArtsAltoona, “using it as a place for the many world class artists in our area to showcase how they create their art, while providing studios for instruction in all the arts, and a retail gallery where residents and visitors to the area can purchase unique art pieces.”

Tickets for ART JIVE ONE are $99 per person and are limited to 250 tickets. Visit artjiveone.org for more information and pay on line via PayPal. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 814.283.5457.

We hope to see you there!
