Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, August 17 through Thursday, August 23.

Area outdoor live music is into its busy peak this weekend, with numerous outdoor concerts, festivals, church picnics, fairs and more.

The Centre County Grange Fair in Centre Hall is under way, and continues through next weekend. Live music happens each day; see the listing below for each day’s itinerary.

Richland Community Days happens in Johnstown on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with live music on two stages. See the listing below for their schedule.

The final concert of the season for the Downtown Altoona Concert Series at Heritage Plaza takes place on Friday night, with Shallow 9 firing up their rock and dance party machine. The show starts at 6 p.m., and admission is free.

Church picnics and festivals provide live music this weekend as well. The annual St. Bernard’s Homecoming Picnic in Hastings commences on Friday night and runs through Sunday, with musical entertainment, food, refreshments and activities each night. Johnstown’s Flood City Brass performs on Friday night, Acoustic Stew entertains on Saturday, Rick Ramsey & Friends play on Sunday afternoon, and PT Cruiser wraps up the music on Sunday night. Admission is free.

Also, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Lilly hosts their annual Polish Picnic on the church’s picnic grounds. Plentiful Polish and other food will be available for the tastebuds, while The Hallmarks and Raging Slagg provide music for the ears. Admission is free. And St. Barbara Parish in Houtzdale hosts their annual Dozynki Festival on Sunday afternoon, also offering a menu of Polish food favorites and polka music from The Vagabonds.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
