Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, November 9 through Thursday, November 15.
Tragedy returns to the area live music scene this weekend. But it is not bad news…New York City’s heavy metal tribute to the Bee Gees, Tragedy, returns to McGarvey’s on Friday night. This group quickly won local fans during their initial June appearance at McGarvey’s during Pennsylvania Roundhouse Rally weekend. Billed as the “All Metal Tribute to the Bee Gees and Beyond,” Tragedy takes the heavy metal genre to places it has never been to before – that is, applying crunchy guitars, booming beats, searing guitar solos, big hair and spandex to the dance-happy late 1970s era of the Bee Gees, disco and pop. The Tragedy roster of Disco Mountain Main, Mo-Royce Peterson, Andy Gibbous Waning, Garry Bibb and The Lord Gibbeth (plus utility infielder and towel boy Lance) will transform Bee Gees hits such as the group’s title song “Tragedy,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Stayin’ Alive,” “You Should Be Dancing” and “Woman In Love,” while also putting pedal to the metal on disco-era songs from the film “Grease,” Neil Diamond, Lipps Inc., Toto and more. Caution: those in attendance may never hear these hits in the same way again! Local hair band tribute favorites Hair Force One will open the show, which begins at 9 p.m.
If you wish to start getting into the spirit of the upcoming holiday season early, the Unter Uns Musical & Entertainment Society presents a Toys for Tots Auction on Saturday evening. The event is open to the public; admission/donation is $5 or a new, unwrapped toy, with all proceeds going to Toys for Tots. There will numerous items to bid on, plus live music following the auction from The McCaulley Project. The festivities begin at 6 p.m.
For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.
Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
