Semi-Supervillains, Fyre and Vision to None On Stage This Weekend!

By February 1, 2019 Uncategorized

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, February 1 through Thursday, February 7.

Among live music happenings on local stages this weekend are the first local appearance of Pittsburgh area rockers the Semi-Supervillains, who perform on Friday evening at Hollidaysburg’s U.S. Hotel. Formed in 2010, the group, which features current Hollidaysburg resident Vinnie Longhi on lead vocals and guitar, mixes classic and modern rock influences into a fresh, high-powered brand of rock’n’roll all their own. This group has appeared at the prestigious South By Southwest (SXSW) Music Conference in Austin, Texas, has appeared on MTV and has had a music video aired on Root Sports during Pittsburgh Pirates telecasts. Friday evening’s show begins at 8 p.m.

After some time away, Altoona-based metal rockers Fyre return to McGarvey’s on Friday night with an updated line-up. Guitarist Logan Yablonski and bassist Corey Colledge – both former members of Everett-based heavy metal purveyors Awaken From Ruin – have joined the Fyre roster, replacing departing members Zach Kensinger and Joe Earnest respectively. Fyre recently issued their second CD, “2 Keys,” and are generating new song material toward a third album; so lots of new Fyre music is likely to be performed at this show. Fyre headlines a triple-bill that also features Johnstown-based rockers Jug and Pittsburgh’s Iron Brigade. The music begins after 9 p.m.

And Clearfield/State College-based modern rockers Vision to None make their return to the Four Dees Lounge on Saturday night after many months away. This group – singer/guitarist Chris Welker, bassist/singer Eric McCrum (also a member of Altoona’s The Hope Fallacy and a prominent solo acoustic performer), guitarist Jesse Husted and drummer Katlyn Reitz – will present their blend of rock, alternative, pop-punk and hardcore sounds, mixing original and cover song material. This show begins at 10 p.m.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
