Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, February 8 through Thursday, February 14.
Seasonal occasions provide the themes for some of the live music happenings during this weekend and upcoming week. McGarvey’s celebrates the start of the Chinese Lunar New Year 2019, designated the Year of the Pig, with the return of the Chinese New Year party on Saturday night. Those in attendance will be able to “pig” out on a Chinese food buffet, while enjoying live music from area favorites This Albatross. The festivities begin at 9 p.m.
Valentine’s Day happens Thursday, and at least one special Valentine-themed live music event is on the schedule, as Huntingdon-based singer and songwriter Dylan E. Miller will serenade Valentine’s Day diners at Josie’s Restaurant in Coalport beginning at 5 p.m. Check back to this listing for any additional Valentine’s events that may be added; and several Valentine’s events will take place next weekend as well.
Recent wintry weather forced a cancellation of Shallow 9’s January 19 performance at the Four Dees Lounge. For those needing their Shallow 9 fix, the rescheduled show is happening Friday night at the Four Dees Lounge.
And after a nearly decade-long run on area stages, Bedford-based rock duo Borrowed Time – Chad Patterson and Mike Clapper – is living on borrowed time for the next few weeks and playing their final shows together before going their separate ways. Two of those final shows happen in the next seven days; Borrowed Time will perform at Oak Spring Winery’s Altoona location on Friday evening for “Friday Wine Down” starting at 6 p.m., and they will then perform Tuesday evening at the Bedford Tavern in Bedford for the venue’s weekly “Tuesday Night Therapy” starting at 6 p.m. Borrowed Time’s final show will be on March 23 during Downtown Bedford, Inc.’s Spring Wine & Spirits Walk.
For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.
Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
