August Letter from the Board

Pool and a ball

One More Busy Month of Summer

Our ArtsAltoona team continues to be very busy in the community promoting all of the wonderful events that are happening at a great variety of venues around the County! We have also been meeting with many community leaders to enhance their awareness of our organization and to seek ways to collaborate in creating more outlets for creativity in the area.

ART JIVE TWO

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, lots of scheduling conflicts lead us to the decision to cancel our event which was scheduled for this upcoming Sunday, August 18th. Thanks so much to Angie Yasulitis and Kim Irwin, the terrific co-chairs for the event and all who served on the committee, we had a wonderful event planned. Thanks also to those who stepped up as sponsors, vendors, artists and volunteers – all of you were essential to make our planned event successful! We will look forward to finding new ways to partner in the year to come.

The following is the news release that went out to local media sources:

This second annual event was created to pour into this community a continued appreciation for the arts as a way to build community, and to help fund our After School Arts Program (ASAP) and our Studio Arts Center.

Art Jive Two was a much-anticipated event for our committee members, supporters, vendors, and artists. However, due to a multitude of scheduling conflicts with an increasing number of potential attendees, we were unable to meet our goals for ticket sales. The many individuals, businesses, and artists who donated their time, requested information, and helped us to market are the heart of what makes this type of community event so special.

While we regret the need to cancel this event and our plans to make it an annual tradition, the committee feels that suspending Art Jive Two for 2019 is the responsible thing to do as a non-profit organization. It is our hope, however, that this will allow us to focus our efforts on smaller fundraising events, and our After School Arts Program (ASAP). Please look for news of our plans throughout the year.

Thank you for your support,

ArtsAltoona Board and the Art Jive Two Committee

ASAP – After School Arts Program

We are thankful to Nick Tiller, our CareerLink funded summer worker, who has been researching all of the existing after school/youth programs throughout the County. We want to direct our efforts to communities and target populations who do not currently have options available to them. We have begun discussion with potential community partners, venues and artists planning for the year ahead. We have also applied for several grants to support ASAP through the upcoming year and are seeking sponsorships from businesses and organizations who wish to help us make this opportunity available to more youth in Altoona and beyond. If you are interested in being a sponsor, please let us know.

Meanwhile, the work on finalizing the Mission, Vision and Values statements for ASAP is continuing and should be finalized in the next few weeks, along with policies, procedures and evaluation criteria. All of this needs to be in place before we develop our fall programming.

Social Media Outreach

Have you Liked our Facebook page? We use it to inform our Followers about things that we are doing as an organization, but also to highlight many of the events that are happening at various venues throughout the community as it relates to arts, culture, history and heritage (all broadly defined). There are so many at times that you couldn’t possibly go to all that interest you (if you are anything like me anyway – interested in many subjects, types of events)! Please share our events when we post them, let us know if you are involved in anything you would like us to post and invite your friends to Like and Follow our page. We are almost to 2500 Likes and over that in Followers.

If you are on Instagram, please Follow us there and share our posts. This primarily visual medium seems to becoming increasingly popular! You will see there (and on Facebook) that ArtsAltoona’s most recent ASAP instructor, Jenn Binus is now the instructor for Ladies Night Out Paint Parties every Thursday evening at the recently renovated Lakemont Park. It should be a great time.  Check out our post on Facebook or Instagram. For further information and to register please contact Jenn at jennweinzierlbinus@gmail.com

Thank you all for your support of ArtsAltoona!
