We The Kings, Labor Day Weekend Festivals and More!

By August 30, 2019 Around the Area, Music

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, August 30 through Thursday, September 5.

Although summer officially lasts for a few more weeks yet, Labor Day Weekend marks the unofficial close to summer for many people, and many events highlight this holiday weekend.

National recording group We The Kings will headline a concert at Penn State Altoona on Friday evening. The Florida-based group was to headline the “Ivyside Off the Rails” music and arts event at the Railroaders Museum in April, but a severe weather forecast ‘derailed’ that event and forced a postponement. Known for the hit singles “Check Yes Juliet,” “Heaven Can Wait” and “We’ll Be a Dream,” as well as headlining the Vans Warped Tour, We The Kings will bring their brand of power pop/punk rock to the Misciagna Family Center parking lot. Recent NBC “The Voice” contestant Jimmy Mowery will open the concert, which begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free, and the public is welcome to attend. No alcohol is permitted.

Numerous festivals take place throughout the Labor Day weekend, especially in Cambria County. The annual Cambria City Ethnic Festival starts Friday evening in Johnstown’s Cambria City neighborhood, with live music happening on at least five different stages along Chestnut Street, plus ethnic and other food galore…The Adams Township Volunteer Fire Company again presents the annual Forest Hills Festival at Berwind Wayside Park in St. Michael from Saturday through Monday. Each day features live music, plus a large fireworks display will take place on Sunday evening. Admission is free…The 49th annual Log Cabin Arts Festival happens Saturday and Sunday at the Community Arts Center of Cambria County in Johnstown, with live music both days…And The Blair County Game, Fish & Forestry Association presents their annual Ox Roast Festival on Sunday and Monday, with delicious ox roast sandwiches, vendors, and live music both days. Admission is free.

On top of that…Roundhouse Harley-Davidson in Duncansville presents their “End of Summer Bash” on Friday and Saturday, with Felix & the Hurricanes and This Albatross performing on Friday, and Boston-based AC/DC tribute band Back In Black performing on Saturday…Locality Gallery in downtown Bedford hosts the “Play Music on Your Porch Day” event on Saturday afternoon and evening, with live music taking place from 5 to 10 p.m…And the annual American Legion County Fair (formerly Cambria County Fair) begins Monday at the fairgrounds in Ebensburg, with Dailey & Vincent performing at the grandstand on Monday night.

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
