Have A Heart for Live Music This Weekend!

By February 14, 2020 Around the Area, Music

Here is a listing of Altoona area live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, February 14 through Thursday, February 20.

With love in the air for Friday, Valentine’s Day, there are plenty of opportunities to show some love for live music happening on area stages this weekend. Numerous Valentine’s Day-themed performances and parties, and also a few anti-Valentine’s Day celebrations for the not-so-romantic, are on the slate for live music fans to enjoy.

Bands and music fans will gather at McGarvey’s on Sunday to show some love and support for an area cancer patient. The “Heaviest Fundraiser Ever” event begins at 3 p.m., and will raise money to help cancer patient Jen Johnstonbaugh, who is undergoing treatments for marginal zone B cell lymphoma. A nurse at Mount Nittany Medical Center, Jen is the wife of area drummer Darl Johnstonbaugh. The benefit will feature performances from Donny Burns & the 3rd Degree, Roadkill, Maul, Caleb Bernstein, E.N.D. and Black Sun. There will be door prize giveaways, and those attending can enter to win a 2010 Pearl Visions VBX birch drum kit, complete with eight drums, eight cymbals and accessories. The drum kit winner will be drawn at the end of the event, and the winner need not be present to win. Donation at the door will be $5 per person, and all proceeds will help with Jen’s medical costs.

So check out the show options listed below, and have a heart for live music this Valentine’s Day weekend!

For outdoor shows, in the event of inclement weather, please call or use social media to check ahead to make sure the show is still taking place, especially if you are driving any distance to attend.

Check out and support the area live music! And if you celebrate heavily while doing so, please designate a sober driver or call a taxi to get you home.
