Here is a listing of Pennsylvania live music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, April 3 through Thursday, April 9.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19/coronavirus situation, all live music venues across the state are not able to host performances at this time. However, some bands and performers are staging online performances on social media from their own homes, studios and other facilities. Below are such situations that have been announced (that I am aware of); keep checking back, as this listing will be updated as new shows are announced. Feel free to take in any of these performances, and if a “virtual tip jar” situation is available, please consider tipping these performers, and support them during this time when they cannot earn income playing shows at public venues. Websites for these performers are also listed; please consider purchasing their music digitally or via CD, which is another way to SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!
Among the live streaming events this weekend, three former area musicians – John McKnight, John Solinski and Scott Quay – present live streaming performances.
Originally from Altoona, John McKnight played drums and sang for a number of bands and projects – including the U.S. Hotel House Band and Felix & the Hurricanes – before relocating to the Atlanta, Georgia area, where he currently resides and plays music. Besides playing drums in live and studio situations with numerous Atlanta and southern bands and projects, John also performs solo acoustic. He will perform online Friday evening starting at 8 p.m.
Originally from northern Cambria County, John “Ski” Solinski performed music with several area bands, including Retroactive, before relocating to Key West, Florida, where he entertains as a solo performer. His live performance will include a blend of music spanning a variety of covers to original songs, plus his fast-firing brand of humor. John’s live stream performance takes place on Friday evening, starting at 8 p.m.
And originally from Altoona, Scott Quay played in this area’s underground music scene in such bands as Necracedia, before relocating to the west coast. Now based in Berkeley, California, Scott currently sings and plays guitar in the Bay area rock group Spider Garage. Scott will perform online Saturday evening starting at 9 p.m. EST (6 p.m. his local time, PST).
