The ArtsAltoona Leadership Team is using this time of social distancing to make plans for the future when we can once again gather in public venues.
We are seeking information and having discussions about how to best make use of the facilities that were so generously donated to us by the Simpson-Temple United Parish congregation.
We have decided that the sanctuary of the church building will be officially marketed as “The Sanctuary” and will be functioning as a Listening Room, as well as rented out for weddings, movie showings, art exhibits, etc.
So what is a Listening Room? It is a community-based live music performance venue. They are usually smaller spaces (ours could hold up to 400 – 450 using the balcony).
Unlike bars, large concert venues or festivals where music is often presented, the emphasis here is on actually LISTENING to the music being performed and interaction between the performers and the audience in a more intimate setting.
The Sanctuary will enhance community and economic development in Altoona and be a part of the amazing destination for the arts that already exists in the Blair County area.
We intend to feature a wide variety of musicians, including local, regional and even national touring performers from diverse genres.
If you have some favorite performers who you think may be interested, please let me know at dgority@artsaltoona.org. Any suggestions you may have for us are greatly welcomed.
Thanks,
Donna Gority,
President of ArtsAltoona Board
