Join us for our New Kids on the Block Party!
We are throwing a block party to introduce ArtsAltoona to the neighborhood. It is going to be next Wednesday, July 22 from 5 to 8pm in the parking lot behind the ArtsAltoona Center, 2212 Sixth Ave, Altoona. It is a family friendly event (no alcohol will be involved) and is open to all. Please gather your family and friends and come join us. Remember to bring your masks, we will be following the guidelines for public (outdoor) gatherings.
We are very excited to announce that the Altoona Brass Collective will be playing, starting at 6:30pm. This will serve as their open dress rehearsal for their scheduled concert at Reservoir Park in Tyrone on August 2 at 6pm.
Doug’s DAWGS will be there with his food truck and he will be joined by others featuring dinner items and dessert/snack items, so come hungry and make it an evening out. This is the only thing you are going to need to bring money for, all other activities are free.
We have invited some arts organizations to engage youth and families with activities. Our neighbors, Betar Dental, will be offering a health and wellness presentation also.
Renewal by Anderson has come onboard as a corporate sponsor for the event. Their support will help us to fund a live radio remote broadcast by MIX 94.7, one of the Lightner Communications radio stations from down Sixth Avenue a couple blocks. We also have funding for the event from the PA Rural Arts Alliance.
We will be following up this event with two or three more food truck festivals called Street Eats with a Side of Art. They are scheduled for the fourth Wednesday of each upcoming month – August 26, September 23 and (possibly) October 28. We will share more details here as each event gets closer. See you there.
Fluid Art Workshop with Paint Party by Sarah
If you’ve seen the cool videos of paint pouring and, like me, thought “I’d like to try that – I’m no artist, but I might be able to create something interesting that way!” Here is your chance to give it a try and benefit ArtsAltoona while you are using your creativity. Paint Party by Sarah will provide each person with three colors plus black or white and instruction on a variety of techniques including Flip Cup, Balloon Smash and Dutch Pour. The workshop will take place at the ArtsAltoona Center, in the lower level of the Education Building. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and PA COVID-19 guidelines will be followed for spatial distancing, mask wearing, etc.
The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28 from 6 to 8pm. The charge is $40. and includes all materials necessary to create your work of art and some light refreshments. Please register at firstname.lastname@example.org, due to COVID restrictions participants will be limited.
Yoga on the Lawn for ArtsAltoona
Thanks to Bloom Yoga & Wellness for presenting Yoga on the Lawn next to their studio at 123 Union Ave to benefit ArtsAltoona. It will continue every Thursday morning from 8:30 to 9:15am through July and August. There is a $10 charge per person for each session attended. The yoga is accessible for all levels of fitness and experience. CDC guidelines will be followed. Please start your Thursdays with us and Bloom.
Hoping I will see you at one or more of these events,
President, ArtsAltoona Board
