Street Eats With a Side of Art Thank Yous

Thanks to all who contributed to the event held Wednesday evening. We appreciate Elaine Conrad for sharing some of her research on the long fight for Women’s Suffrage both nationally and locally and Valerie Stratton for telling us about the Suffrage play/pageant Grit and Grace that she is directing for upcoming performances at Baker Mansion.

A group of kids had a great time participating in the Family Yoga Jungle Adventure with Bloom Yoga and Wellness www.bloomherenow.com. They also made art at a variety of tables each with a different set of materials, thanks to Claudia Montero and her family and to Dutch Brennan for staffing the tables.

We are pleased to partner with the Brian Morden Foundation to create art for display at the Altoona Area Public Library in September for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Thanks, as always, to Doug Rhodes for having his Doug’s DAWGS food truck at our events. We enjoyed the lemonade and kettle corn too.

We appreciate Chad Landeck for being with us as DJ CHAOS and for the work he did to search out and play female empowerment music in honor of Women’s Equality Day and the Women’s Suffrage Centennial!

We are grateful for the presence of the Altoona Police Department officers and vehicles and for the Blair County Emergency Management Department representatives who brought their Big Red vehicle and educational materials. Also, thanks to Maria Brandt from The Arc of Blair County for bringing information about emergency preparedness and people first language.

Thanks to our Leadership Team members George Sackandy, Ken Decker, Candy Holliday, Dutch Brennan, and Leah Klevan for all of their help before during and after the event. We were very grateful to have assistance from Pyramid Healthcare for set up and tear down. We are very pleased that board members Chuck Prijatelj and Mike Holzer came with their family members and enjoyed the festivities.

The biggest thanks goes to our newest board member, former AmeriCorps member, Claudia Montero! She was the master mind behind the event. She came up with the arts activities and did the gathering of materials, lay out, set up, and recruiting of volunteers virtually single handed. We very much appreciate your work on our behalf Claudia! Your creativity and dedication never cease to amaze me!

Thanks again to all of you!
