Hollidaysburg Happenings

There’s a lot of great events coming up in Hollidaysburg over the next few weeks. This Friday, November 20th from 4 to 7pm, is the Third in the Burg. This event which has been happening for the past several months is coordinated by Handpicked Homemade Hollidaysburg (check them out on Facebook) and is held on the third Friday of each month. It is primarily centered around the 200 block of Allegheny Street where the founding organizations – Moonstruck Vintage Finds, Lightning Bug Gift Co. and Maker Studio – are located. Each month the number of participating businesses has grown, be sure to check the Facebook event page under Discussion for information about the deals being offered by some of the participating businesses. The event is sponsored by the Hollidaysburg Area Community Partnership.

On Friday, November 27th (aka Black Friday) a Support Your Local Restaurants Soup Sampling Holiday Kick Off is taking place in front of the US Hotel Tavern (the 400 block of S Juniata Street) from 5 to 7pm. Tickets for the event are $10 which includes a $5 restaurant coupon and the sampling. Tickets are available for sale at the US Hotel Tavern, Boro Coffee, Copy-Rite Banner Zone and from the HAMPA (Hollidaysburg Arts & Music Parents Association). Proceeds from the event will benefit HAMPA and the American Rescue Workers. You are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, toiletries or new, unwrapped toys to donate. Thanks go to the following event sponsors Keller Engineers, Inc, Joan & Joe Keller, Kim & Jamie Van Buren, Erica & Travis Sheetz, and the Hollidaysburg Area Education Association. Thanks also to Don Delozier for the concept and organizing the event.

The Shop Small Crawl 2020 is kicking off on Black Friday and Small Business Saturday then continues through the entire month of December. It involves purchasing a Shop Small Crawl tote bag for $5 at either Lightning Bug Gift Company (where they were made) in Hollidaysburg or Humble & Kind Boutique in Altoona. Check the list of participating businesses on the Facebook event page, go shopping with your tote (in person or online for many of them), collect pins when you make purchases (or purchase the pins) and enter to have a chance to win some prizes. The complete details are on the Facebook page. In addition to the retail shops participating, there are some food venues and even the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art Altoona! Go get your bag in person or online, have a blast buying unique gifts for your family and friends (and yourself) and maybe win a great prize along the way!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving – whether you can get together in person or virtually – and join me in being thankful for this wonderful area where we live!
