Happy New Year to You!

The new year can’t come soon enough for many of us! The year 2020 has been bizarre, difficult and divisive on many counts, yet many wonderful things happened as well! People got married, babies were born, and ArtsAltoona acquired a home base. We are forever grateful to the congregation at the Simpson-Temple United Parish for gifting us their amazing facilities at 2212 Sixth Ave in Altoona! We have come a long way over the past year toward creating a multi-use arts center there and are looking forward to being able to officially kick off the use of The Sanctuary as a Listening Room/performance venue as early in 2021 as is feasible. Our other multi-purpose rooms in the lower levels of the church and education buildings, at this point tentatively referred to as The Grotto and The Side Door respectively, will also be the location for many activities for ArtsAltoona, and for those who want to rent the rooms for various purposes. We are expecting many events to be scheduled one the coronavirus restrictions are lifted. Then it will indeed be a happy new year!

Holiday Lights on the Lake

This annual festivity at Lakemont Park is continuing every night from 6 to 10pm until Sunday, January 3. The free model train exhibit presented by the Alto Model Train Museum Association is available every night inside Santa’s Village (even if you don’t go through the Lights display). While you are there, be sure to take advantage of the 25% off sale in the Gift Shop – a great opportunity to stock up on seasonal goodies for next year! Since all of the restaurants and bars are closed on New Years Eve – our friend Doug’s Dawgs will be set up in the parking lot that night selling hot dogs and sauerkraut to help welcome in the new year!

Black Light Adventures

If you are looking for a fun, educational, family friendly activity for New Years Day – Lincoln Caverns along Route 22 outside of Huntingdon – is going to be presenting Black Light Adventures through the caverns and Whisper Rocks. Advance ticket purchases are required and children must be at least 10 years old. This is actually an ongoing opportunity on Friday nights, starting at 6pm through the end of May, then switching to Wednesday evenings in June through August. We are truly blessed to have such an amazing natural feature such as this so close to us in the region! Check out the details on their Facebook page at Lincoln Caverns, Inc and buy your tickets through their website www.lincolncaverns.com.

Thank you all for your support of ArtsAltoona and all of our other amazing local businesses and organizations. We are wishing you a very happy new year!
