As I am writing this it is the second day in a row where it is a beautiful day in Central PA! The temperature has been close to 60 degrees this afternoon and I’m loving it! We are beginning to plan lots of events to be held at the ArtsAltoona Center over the next few months. Please Like and Follow our new ArtsAltoona Center Facebook page so you will know what all is happening at the center. Unlike our regular ArtsAltoona Facebook page, where we share a wide variety of events in our focus areas of Arts (defined very broadly), Culture, History and Heritage, along with some really amazing art, as well as our events, the Center page is dedicated specifically to matters directly tied to the Center. Similarly, we have a new website dedicated to the ArtsAltoona Center. Please check it out at www.artsaltoonacenter.org. You can learn about the rooms we have available for rental, including the newly named “Blank Canvas” in the lower level of the brick Education Building. Much work is being done to make the spaces ready for rentals for a wide variety of uses. Stay tuned!
Coming Attractions at the ArtsAltoona Center
ArtsAltoona has two events scheduled in the Blank Canvas coming up in early March. The first is a Spring Mommy and Me Paint Party on Saturday, March 6 from noon to 2pm. The $30 ticket includes two people, all of the supplies needed to make your beautiful hanging artwork, and instruction from local artist Olivia Steele. Light refreshments will also be provided. There are only a few tables left, so be sure to register right away if you are interested.
The second event is for adults only! It is a Paint and Sip event in partnership with Paint Party by Sarah. It is being held on Saturday, March 13 from 6 to 8pm. Tickets are $40 per person and include the supplies, wine sampling and instruction by Sarah Jubeck. No more than 20 tickets will be sold.
All of the information and pictures of the artwork to be created at each of these events is on both of the ArtsAltoona and ArtsAltoona Center Facebook pages and websites.
Cove Community Theater
The theater has been transformed into an escape room for a totally immersive/theatrical experience – Can You Escape the Red Queen? There are only 4 remaining time slots available as I am writing this, according to their Facebook page Cove Community Theatre LLC. Check their page for updates or call Janet Sell at 814-793-2695 or 814-327-2515 for the most up to date information and to make your reservations.
Calendar of Events
When you are looking for things to do in the area, be sure to check out our website calendar at calendar.artsaltoona.org The events are always part of this newsletter too. Right now you will find events from Altoona Community Theatre, the Allegheny Ukulele Kollective, the Jaffa Shrine, ArtsAltoona and others. If you are aware of events that should be posted, please let us know.
Can You Help Us?
We are in need of your help. We are looking for carts for folding chairs and tables. If you have one or more that you’d be willing to donate or sell us at a “friends and family” price, please let me know.
We are also looking for a skilled carpenter. We are planning to remove part of the pulpit and other woodwork from The Sanctuary Listening Room and repurpose it to construct a bar area in the lower level (currently referred to as The Grotto – how do you like that name?). Please let me know if you or someone you know may be interested.
Until next time,
