St. Patrick’s Festivities and Some Levity for Your Weekend…

By March 19, 2021 Music

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, March 19 through Thursday, March 25.

Due to COVID-19-related restrictions, many live music venues across the area are still not able to host performances at this time. The listing below includes both area live public shows and online live-streaming shows; keep checking back, as this listing will be updated as new shows are announced.

If you are attending a public show, be aware that seating and admission may be limited due to restrictions, and masks and social distancing may be required. Please respect others’ personal space if they wish to socially distance from others.

For online performances, if a “virtual tip jar” situation is available during live streams, please consider tipping these performers, and support them during this time when they cannot earn income playing shows at public venues. Websites for these performers are also listed; please consider purchasing their music digitally or via CD, which is another way to SUPPORT LIVE MUSIC!

For those still wanting to wear the green as St. Patrick’s Day festivities wind down, Tyrone hosts their Irish Heritage Days events this weekend. Friday evening’s events include the lighting of the shamrock, a performance by the Altoona Brass Collective (double-quintet) at City Hotel Park, and fireworks. Saturday’s full day of activities includes Gold Rush sprint races starting at 8 a.m., a vendor and craft fair, a dog fashion show, the Luck of the Irish Parade at 2 p.m., and musical performances from Full Kilt (11 a.m.) and the Rail City Pipes and Drums (after 3 p.m. following the parade) at City Hotel Park. All events are free admission. And for those wishing to see Full Kilt sooner, they perform at McGarvey’s on Friday evening starting at 8 p.m.

And Levity Brewing Company presents the grand opening celebration of their new Altoona location at 1411 11th Avenue in downtown Altoona on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m. Part of the grand opening will be musical performances at Heritage Plaza, including western PA/Nashville-based country pop duo Willow Hill. Among Rolling Stone magazine’s “Bands to Watch,” Willow Hill is the husband and wife duo of Alexandra and C.T. Fields, who are also the core members of Pittsburgh-based rock group Lovebettie.
