Citizens for the Arts

Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania works to create awareness of the important role that the arts play in education; in reduction of juvenile crime; in economic development, tourism, quality of life, and community revitalization. Citizens for the Arts in Pennsylvania reports to its members and non members alike research that substantiates the contributions of the arts in their communities, thereby advancing the development of a strong network of art supporters across Pennsylvania.

Endowment for the Arts (NEA)

Endowment for the Arts (NEA) The NEA publications library provides hundreds of research reports, essays, survey analyses, and briefs. Research covers a variety of disciplines including Dance, Design, Folk & Traditional Arts, Literature, Media Arts, Museums, Music, Opera, Presenting & Multidisciplinary, Theater & Musical Theater, and Visual Arts. Other topics feature Accessibility, Artist Communities, Arts Education, and Research & Analysis including numerous studies on audience engagement and public participation in the arts.

Arts & Economic Prosperity – Americans for the Arts Americans for that Arts performs a national study arts and economics every five years. In addition to the National Findings, Americans for the Arts also offer a Calculator to measure your own organization’s impact and Tools and Resources with sample charts, press releases, and reports.


ArtsEdSearch – Arts Education Partnership The ArtsEdSearch is a service of the Arts Education Partnership with research on arts education as it relates to students and educators for both during the school day and out-of-school. Studies include research overviews as well as policy implications.

Creative Industries – Americans for the Arts

Creative Industries – Americans for the Arts
The Creative Industries Reports from Americans for the Arts provide insight from business and employment data for both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors. Reports may be viewed by State, Congressional District, County, or State Legislative Districts.

Createquity Arts Policy Library

The Arts Policy Library from Createquity posts literature reviews on new and relevant arts research including Arts Education, Community Revitalization, Arts Funding, and Social Change. Each review contains a detailed summary, analysis, and implications along with recommendations for additional reading.


Financial, operational, and programmatic data collected by DataArts has been analyzed and presented in a growing number of research reports prepared by professional researchers around the country.
Topics include: Economic Impact (including the Allegheny County Report), the Creative Economy, Salaries and Benefits, and Indexing Diversity. The site also contains info about accessing DataArts for research.

Grantmakers in the Arts Publications

Grantmakers in the Arts compiles hundreds of research publications on key issues related to arts policy and advocacy. Recent topics focus on philanthropy, economic sustainability, and nonprofit management. The Library is searchable by Arts Funding Topics, Grantmaking Topics, and Art Disciplines.

GrantSpace, a service of the Foundation Center, features an Arts and Culture section with numerous resources including live chat sessions, job and request for proposal listings, news articles, philanthropy interviews, and reports.

Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance

The Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance provides research on arts and culture in the Philadelphia region with reports on participation, history, funding, and more. Recent research focuses on Community Development & Economic Impact, and Cultural Salary & Benefits. The Cultural Alliance researched changes in cultural activity during the recession through their Portfolio study.

National Assembly of State Arts Agencies (NASAA)

NASAA offers lists of research tools and reports on issues pertaining to public policy and the arts. Topics range from Creative Economic Development, Arts Education and Arts Participation to Nonprofit Finance, Public Art, and Funding.

The National Center for Arts Research shares evidence-based insights into the health of arts and cultural organizations in America.

TRG Knowledge Center
