Honoring a Master
Joe Servello has been a prolific artist in Altoona for many years. His murals and paintings brighten homes and public spaces across our community, and his illustrated books span everything from children’s stories to adult mystery and fiction.
Recently, as Joe transitioned from his longtime home due to vision loss caused by macular degeneration, an unfinished woodcut was discovered among his works. Unable to complete it himself, Joe entrusted fellow artist Kevin Kutz to finish the piece. With the help of woodcarver Tom McCarty, Kevin brought the artwork titled The Philosopher to life.
The completed woodcut will be hand-printed in editions by Kevin himself, and t-shirts featuring the design will be produced locally through Lightning Bug Gift Co. in Hollidaysburg. A dedicated supporter of ArtsAltoona, Joe hopes these works will help fund and inspire future arts programming in our community.
We’re proud to celebrate Joe’s remarkable career and continued creative spirit by making these special pieces available to you.
