ArtsAltoona is bringing artists into the community for a weekend of creativity, exploration, and live painting during our Plein Air Painting Weekend, taking place May 22–24 throughout the Altoona area.

Throughout the weekend, participating artists will be painting outdoors at locations across the region, capturing local landscapes, architecture, and community spaces in real time. “Plein air” painting, a French term meaning “open air,” is the practice of creating artwork entirely on location rather than in a studio, allowing artists to respond directly to the atmosphere, light, and energy of a place.

Community members are encouraged to keep an eye out for artists working around Altoona during the event weekend and experience the creative process firsthand.

The weekend will conclude with a public Wet Sale on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the ArtsAltoona Center, located at 2212 6th Ave, Altoona, PA. The Wet Sale offers visitors the unique opportunity to view and purchase freshly completed artwork directly from the artists who created it.

In addition to celebrating the vibrancy and immediacy of plein air painting, the event also includes artist awards, including a $500 Best in Show prize selected by a juror and a $250 People’s Choice Award determined by public vote during the Wet Sale.

ArtsAltoona is proud to host this event as a way to connect artists and the community while showcasing the beauty and character of the Altoona region through art.
